Combining Conventional
and Alternative Approaches to Recovery
ACCESS TREATMENT CENTER is an outpatient
drug and alcohol treatment
center. ACCESS Treatment Center addresses the physical aspect of addictions
to complement and support traditional drug and alcohol counseling and
12-Step programs.
A Drug-Free Method of Ending All Addictions
Unlike most other treatment programs, the ACCESS program addresses the
physical aspects of addictions. This physical approach to recovery is
designed to work as a complement to individual and group therapies so
the chances for a successful recovery are maximized.
ACCESS treatment program is specifically
designed to integrate all aspects of recovery: physical, emotional,
mental and social.
The ACCESS clinic offers these modalities:
• Chinese Ear Acupressure
• Chiropractic care
• Amino Acids
• Metabolic balancing
This is a multifactorial approach that has a high success rate and
is cost-effective.
The ACCESS program is designed for food, drug, and alcohol addictions.
The ACCESS program consists of a 35-day outpatient program and will
allow the
patient to work while going through therecovery process. This program
has a
strong focus on reducing physical cravings, depression and anxiety
by including nutrition and other physical treatments. This program
works in conjunction with outside counseling and 12-Step Programs.
The Modalities
Benefits of Chiropractic Care in the
Recovery Process
Individuals with addictions will show some level of spinal subluxation
(vertebrae out of alignment), a major indicator of a system out
of balance. This mis-alignment interferes with the natural flow
of brain chemicals to the body. A clinical study at the University
of Florida School of Medicine has shown that through the use of
Chiropractic treatment the retention rate for a 30 day recovery
program is improved from the 72% national average to 100%. This
is done through the use of a handheld, low impact instrument called
the Integrator, which realigns the spine so that this natural flow
of chemicals is resumed.
Benefits of Amino Acids in the Recovery Process
In a two-pronged therapy to restore the natural balance of the
body, chiropractic care is used in conjunction with a course of
amino acid oral supplements. While chiropractic correction removes
the interference to the natural flow of brain chemicals, the amino
acids help shore up the addicted body’s depleted supplies of these essential protein
building-blocks. The amino acid supplements provide dramatic changes
in a person’s behavior and will help to assist that he/she
stays off the substance of choice.
Benefits of Chinese Ear Acupressure in the
Recovery Process
Ear acupressure helps release the pleasureproducing brain chemicals
called endorphins. A non-needle, painless electronic device is used
to stimulate points on the ear. Common responses to increased endorphins
include:
• Decreased cravings for the substance
• Increased state of relaxation
• Reduced sense of physical and emotional withdrawal
Benefits of Counseling in the Recovery Process
Counseling helps the person live a lifestyle free from drugs and alcohol.
Managing emotion and relapse triggers, and providing education about
drug and alcohol abuse, are some of the benefits of counseling that
assist the individual
in transitioning into a different lifestyle.
Benefits of 12-Step Programs in the Recovery Process
The 12-step program is a peer supported group that teaches practical
tools for a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle and builds new associations
with other members of likemindedness and similar goals. The ACCESS program
is designed to work in conjunction with outside counseling and 12-Step
Programs to aid recovery.
About Dr. Cindy Zafis
My Name is Dr. Cindy Zafis, and I am the Director
of the ACCESS TREATMENT CENTER. Our mission at ACCESS Treatment Center
is to provide an easier, kinder approach to the recovery process,
using all the latest research in the field of addiction to help with
the physical and mental aspects of being addiction-free. We do this
by naturally increasing “feel good” chemicals in the brain
and by correcting the biochemistry of the body, so that the body naturally
stops or decreases the craving for the addictive substance.
I hold
a B.S. in Math & Computer Science at the University of Illinois,
a Doctorate of
Chiropractic at Palmer West College and I am credentialed as a Certified
Addictionologist.
Our goal at Access Treatment Center is to reduce cravings and withdrawal
symptoms during the recovery period, so that your recovery process
